We meet Abner Meecham (Hal Holbrook) as he absconds from the retirement home where he has been placed to make his way back to the family farm. When he gets there he finds that Lonzo Choat (Ray McKinnon), an old enemy, has moved into his house. Unwilling to give up his longtime home, particularly to someone like Lonzo, Abner sets up in the tenant's house on the property and begins an escalating war of wills with Lonzo over the property. Based on the short story by acclaimed author William Gay, "That Evening Sun" touches on themes of family betrayal and aging with dignity. Holbrook builds on the career resurgence signaled with "Into the Wild" with a powerhouse performance, and McKinnon (Oscar winner for "The Accountant" and a 2006 Indie Memphis alum) goes toe-to-toe as his adversary. With a cast that also includes Walton Goggins, Carrie Preston, Barry Corbin, and Dixie Carter, gorgeous Tennessee scenery, and an award-winning screenplay from writer/director Scott Teems, "That Evening Sun" takes its place as a true Southern film. Scott Teems, Ray McKinnon and Barry Corbin are scheduled to attend.** Tickets are $8 each / $6 for Indie Memphis members.
