When times are hard and financial resources are depleted, creativity and innovation often come into play and novel inventions are birthed. With financial duress lurking around the Cheng family, Elaine does whatever it takes to keep her family together — even dabbling with a pyramid scheme. When Elaine fails to return home one evening, her young children -- inquisitive, adorable Tina and resourceful but easily annoyed Raymond -- do what most people who grow up with limited resources do: survive and innovate. A heartfelt film that delivers aspects of life we all can relate to, Children of Invention touches on divorce, immigration, survival, family ties, unemployment and a mother’s love.
