Competition Feature/Hometowner/Narrative Feature
REGIONAL PREMIERE Depressed over the unexpected death of his longtime companion, Otto undertakes a cross-country road trip with his interminably perky friend Rob in an effort to escape his own painful memories. Rob thinks the trip will help Otto pull himself together. Instead, Otto falls further apart. At a rest stop, he escapes with a carload of strangers, leaving behind his friend, his past, and even his name.
Short
A widow. A scrabble champion / stunt woman. A real estate broker. A grandmother of eleven. What do they have in common? They're all mermaids.
Competition Feature/Narrative Feature
TENNESSEE PREMIERE Fanatical birdwatchers have descended upon a small town in the Arkansas bayou in hopes of finding the celebrated Ivory Billed Woodpecker. Declared extinct in the 1940’s, the bird has apparently been spotted by numerous experts. Enter amateur birder and poet Johnny Neander, who has convinced his taciturn sidekick that he will be the one to find the elusive woodpecker. The ensuing chaos divides the small town between believers and non-believers, rabid environmentalists and opportunistic entrepreneurs. Much like the bird itself, WOODPECKER explores the intersection of fact and fiction, manipulating our notions of documentary and narrative techniques within a tragic comedy about hope, perception, and some very, very strange birds. Preceded by CRUSTVASKA.
Hometowner/Short
Cross Plains, TX, population 1000, lost a fourth of their homes to a grass fire but this small town teaches a big lesson about human determination.
