Indie Memphis juror and renown film critic and interviewer Elvis Mitchell hosts two intimate conversations at this year’s festival, with Memphis filmmaker Craig Brewer and actor / director Giancarlo Esposito. At Indie Memphis, Elvis is also screening his recent documentary, THE BLACK LIST, which presents twenty prominent African Americans of various professions, disciplines and backgrounds, including Toni Morrison, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Vernon Jordan, Chris Rock, Richard D. Parsons, Zane and the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Here to screen his feature film directorial debut at Indie Memphis, GOSPEL HILL, Giancarlo Esposito is best know for his work as an actor on stage and in such films as THE USUAL SUSPECTS, Wayne Wang's SMOKE and THE LAST HOLIDAY, opposite Queen Latifah. His work in several of Spike Lee’s films are legendary, including performances in DO THE RIGHT THING, MO’ BETTER BLUES and MALCOLM X. He has also starred opposite Clive Owen in DERAILED and the late Paul Newman in TWILIGHT, and received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his performance in FRESH. His extensive career in television includes most notably, “Homicide: Life on The Streets,” “Law and Order” and “Kidnapped.” |
